3D-scanning and Photogrammetry

Digital 3D-assets from the real world

By using 3D-scanning and photogrammetry we can make a digital copy of any environment or object. This opens up a world of possibilities!

With the scanned 3D-models we can create interactive stories, render informative videos or make interactive VR-environments where the user gets to explore everything in full 3D.

Our team at IVAR Studios is experienced with photogrammtery and can provide full services on a range of cost levels: from quick-and-easy scans for use online to bigger and more complex scans of full environments and landscapes.

A new frontier on the internet

Using 3D online to showcase places and objects can help us tell stories in a completely new way

Rich Details

3D-models give us great details of a subject, object or environment. Users get to fully interact with the spatial components of the website.

Immersive experiences

With 3D-scanning we open the door to making rich storytelling websites that can immerse the user even more

Spatial understanding

Using 3D can help make sense of complex subjects and places where 2D images, maps and floorplans simply don't work well enough.

Gamification

By working with 3D-model environments and objects, we can gamify even the most boring subject. Anything is fun when you get to explore it in 3D.

Human interaction

People natively understand 3D objects, and it triggers curiosity when you can tweak and manipulate objects to take a closer look.

Competitive edge

Using 3D-models to showcase your work or invite people to your spaces gives you a competitive edge

3D-SCANNING AND PHOTOGRAMMETRY

Different types of 3D-scanning

There are many ways to create 3D-models from the real world, and we work with most of them. Some are simpler than others, and it all depends on what your end goal is: but there’s always a way to use 3D for empowering any project.

LiDAR-scanning

Using laser technology, Lidar scanning sends out thousands of light beams per second to map out a place or object in 3D. This tech is great for making indoor environments where scale is important.

Photogrammetry

The process of photogrammetry involves taking hundreds or often thousands of images of an object or location. These images go into sophisticated software that calculates 3D-models, and is a great choice for acheiving realism in 3D-models.

NeRF

A neural radiance field (NeRF) is a fully-connected neural network that can generate novel views of complex 3D scenes, based on regular images or even video. It works in a very different way from other methods – but is great for projects where the main deliverable is video.

Recreation from images

For historical objects or sites, it is possible to use archive imagery to ‘go back in time’ with generating 3D models. This process often involves photogrammetry to a point, but then also relies on manual reconstruction of the object or seen. Lots of untapped potential for exploring historical places.

BENEFITS of 3D-SCANNING

What our clients gain from 3D-scanning

We’ve helped many clients digitize their objects and environments in full 3D, and it gives a wealth of possible use cases for storytelling and showcasing their work.

From museums that want to digitize their whole collection into 3D-model assets to industrial companies who want to show a competitive edge by visualizing their workflows as interactive VR stories – 3D-modeling is the first step. And we’re here to help.
