IVAR Studios is an immersive production studio in Stockholm, working with museums in Sweden and the Nordics. For museums and heritage institutions we do three things: we document places in 3D, we make immersive experiences from collections, sites and research, and we run workshops that help museum teams find their own formats.
We have made VR experiences of a closed Cold War fort for The National Swedish Museums of Military History, a WebXR history lesson used in hundreds of schools for the National Museums of World Culture, and a live installation in the dome at Tekniska museet with KTH.
Yes. We capture sites, buildings and interiors with photogrammetry and LiDAR, and deliver both an archival version at full resolution and lighter versions for the web and for exhibitions. That is what we did at Stonehenge for National Geographic: one model for the record, one that runs on a phone.
For the archive we deliver open formats, every source image and a description of how the data was captured and processed. If you need survey accuracy, we tie the scan to measured control points.
Go inside a place that is closed, fragile or far away. Victoriafortet was closed to the public for decades, and our VR experiences let visitors in. Step into history: in Memories of Mexico, school students explore Olmec, Aztec and Maya culture in their browser. Or do something only a dome allows: in Dome Conductor, visitors lead a symphony orchestra.
We agree on it in the contract. Museums usually need the right to keep, archive and publish the 3D data, and sometimes to release it under an open licence such as CC BY, for example on DigitaltMuseum or Europeana. Tell us at the start and we write it in. For finished experiences we also agree on who hosts them, and for how long.
We design for the visitors you actually have. Most of our museum and school work runs in a browser or on a touchscreen as well as in a headset, so in most of it a headset is an option, not a requirement. We write for specific age groups, and we test with real users before launch.
Yes. IVAR Studios AB (org. nr 559059-5392) is registered for F-skatt and VAT, and has delivered to Swedish state museums. We answer tenders and requests for quotation in Swedish or English, and can give references from earlier museum work.
Our workshops are made for museum and heritage teams with collections, sites or archives and no clear route into digital formats. In half a day to three days, your team tries the formats, scans something in the room and develops ideas built on your own material.
