In development

Most science writing tells you what researchers found. Exped.earth puts you on the rocky shore beside them - flying alongside a robot survey boat as it photographs a calving glacier, or rappelling into a Tien Shan cave first spotted from the air. This is our framework for interactive fieldwork stories: immersive worlds built from real field campaigns, each with its own AI-driven droid that answers questions and speaks only from that expedition's research. Accessible to anyone with a browser.

Exped.earth highlight

We believe the next generation of science communication will be interactive, immersive and guided by AI. This framework is how we're building it.

The Framework

We work directly with scientists to turn their research into interactive 3D worlds. Each 'expedition' is a chapter-driven environment with its own setting, story beats and an AI-driven droid grounded in the science. The groundwork is the world itself - carefully built from a real field campaign so you can learn from it and explore in your own time.

AI-Guided Exploration

Each expedition has its own AI-driven droid as a companion - a science droid, a storyteller, a narrator - trained only on that expedition's research so it can answer the questions a linear story can't anticipate and move you through the world without ever leaving the science. On the glacier, SAL-01 guides you across a vanishing ice sheet; in the Baltic, ASK-01 surfaces a sea most people think is empty; DRON-3 and LAKE-01 do the same for the caves of Kyrgyzstan and the marine lakes of Palau. And every claim is source-bound - it tracks back to peer-reviewed papers and named field campaigns, with the sources visible at all times, never invented, never hand-waved. The droid doesn't replace the narrative - it deepens it.

Try It Out

We've built four prototype expeditions so far - the Baltic Sea, a calving glacier in Arctic Sweden, the limestone caves of Kyrgyzstan, and the marine lakes of Palau - with more in development. Live expeditions are invite-only during the beta; the intro is open to anyone, and we'll send you a password for the rest. Whether you're a researcher with a dataset, a museum looking for new ways to engage visitors, or an educator who wants to bring a subject to life in the classroom - we'd love to show you what we're building.

Impact

We're actively developing new expeditions and looking for research partners, institutions and funders who want to use interactive storytelling and AI-driven droids to make their subjects accessible to new audiences - always in line with our stance on AI for learners. If you have a story that could benefit from this format, we'd love to hear from you.
